Apple banned in Russia because Apple CEO Tim Cook announces he is gay?
According to a report that not be verified by international main stream media published by a local News Site on Tuesday, the authorities may ban the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad beginning on New Year’s Day (January 1st, 2015). There's speculation that it is the result of Cook’s coming out. Soon afterwards, a Russian monument to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs which is the shape of an iPhone was dismantled.“In Russia, gay propaganda and other sexual perversions among minors are prohibited by law," ZEFS said, noting that the memorial had been "in an area of direct access for young students and scholars." Seemingly it makes sense that the authority made that decision.
Another version is that the iCloud is the chief culprits. The new law will ban any device that has the iCloud software inside. The reason is that the data saved in iCloud is not stored locally. The servers employed by Apple are based in the U.S., not Russia. This is not a law that was created to harm Apple specifically, as it applies to all online services including social networks. Russia could even decide to enforce the ban at the retail level, which also would be not good for Apple. Those in Russia who currently own an iPhone 6/6 plus or iPad/ iPad that supports iCloud, might have to put up with relentless searches from the authorities.
